La Mancha: The Card Game

Created by Chris Totten

La Mancha is a storytelling card game based on Miguel de Cervantes’s classic 1605 novel, Don Quixote.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Chapter XIV: Art print voting results, BackerKit store, and production update
over 5 years ago – Sun, Jan 13, 2019 at 04:21:13 PM

Dear Backers,

Thank you everyone who voted on our poll for which pieces of La Mancha artwork you would like to receive as prints. We've tallied the results and here are the winners:

The images chosen were:

  • Don Quixote and the Knight of the Mirrors
  • Don Quixote and the Knight of the White Moon
  • The Knight's Vigil
  • Don Quixote and the Windmills
  • The Adventure of The Wooden Horse

Backers who have art prints in their reward tiers will be able to choose from these prints. They will also be available as add-ons at our BackerKit pre-order store.

Speaking of which...

The pre-order store for La Mancha is Live!

We have just opened our pre-order store for La Mancha on BackerKit (click for the link.) Anyone who missed the Kickstarter campaign will be able to order the game at the retail price of $35.

We will also be sending out backer surveys and administering add-ons (for those who ordered signed artwork and the Kickstarter-exclusive art print) through this site when the time for surveys comes in the next few months.

Production update

The image above is the FINAL set of front-of-card paintings for La Mancha, meaning that illustration of the game is DONE! There are obviously many more than what are pictured here, but this is just a small sample. I'll probably gather all the images for a group picture down the road.

Thank you all for your patience with my radio-silence while I get these done!

The next step is design verification with our printer, Panda Game Manufacturing. I'll be working to get the digital files to fit their specifications so we can get to proofs and prototype copies over the next month or so.

That's all for now! I'll keep you updated as production progresses and as we choose more artwork for rewards (next up: choosing the tote bag artwork!)

Update - 12/3/2018

Dear backers,

Hello there! I hope everyone has had a few restful days post-La Mancha Kickstarter campaign! Now that we are fully funded (thanks again!) I wanted to do a quick update to outline where we are and what our plans going forward will be for getting the game into full production and to all of you that believed in us.

Game design and illustration

Right now, the major brunt of work is finishing out the game's design and illustration. I just completed a pretty thorough rewrite of some of the game's storytelling prompts and Chivalry cards based on feedback from some recent playtests. They now give more context and information to players so they should be easier to use by players who have never read Don Quixote.

Chivalry cards with a character's name now have a short blurb about who they are so players unfamiliar with the novel know how to use these cards in their storytelling.

Illustration will be a bigger task that may go into 2019, but by the end of the week I should have a new batch of Feat illustrations and a video of painting them to post for everyone.

Pledge management and surveys

We've gotten some questions already from people who did not get the chance to back the Kickstarter but are very interested in the game. We have also received some questions about pledge management. We will be using Backerkit to assist in these processes.

While we are still finalizing some of our schedule, expect surveys to go out in the Spring. The main function of these will be to collect shipping information and let backers with artwork select which prints they would like. Backers who added signed artwork or the Kickstarter-exclusive print will also be able to indicate that they made use of those offers in their surveys.

We will let you know when the Backerkit page is up so you will be able to make use of the features there.

Miscellaneous

Other than that, we are jumping right into finalizing some of our printing and shipping plans and will update you if anything changes.

We've gotten a few more questions about a potential Spanish edition of the game. While our focus is on fulfilling the orders for this campaign, having the game in Don Quixote's original language is still very much on our radar and once production of this round is complete, we will evaluate how to best approach a translation.

Otherwise - cheers and thanks again for believing in La Mancha! Rest assured we are jumping right into our next steps so you won't have to wait too long for your copies!

Cheers,

Chris

Dear backers,

Here's a quick thank-you video, as promised.

100% funded! Thank you!

Dear backers,

We just crossed the finish line! While I am planning on doing a video message later about it, I wanted to pop-in to express my gratitude and let you know that we'll be hard at work on this end to make sure we can get you La Mancha as fast as we can!

There are still 68 hours left in the campaign so please continue sharing with anyone who may be on the fence about ordering a copy. We'll update on other post-campaign activities as we finalize plans.

Until then...looks like I have cards to paint!

Cheers and many humble thanks,

Chris
