La Mancha is a storytelling card game based on Miguel de Cervantes’s classic 1605 novel, Don Quixote.

Chapter XII: In which we come to the final 72 hours and I share some new podcast links!

Dear backers,
Here we are, the final 72 hours of the La Mancha Kickstarter campaign and we are sitting at 98% funded!
Help us get to 100% and beyond!
Earlier this week I posted a message for backers to post on their social media walls and it was highly effective! If you are willing and able, I would like your help doing this again so we can push past 100% funded! Since the game has a few target audiences (game players and educators) here are 2 different sample posts that you can copy/paste:
For game players:
"La Mancha is 98% FUNDED and in its final days on Kickstarter! La Mancha is an award-winning storytelling card game for 3-5 players where you battle your friends one minute and declare love to them the next using quotes from medieval books of chivalry. It's based on Don Quixote, but it's as fun for people who've never read the book as it is for people who've read it multiple times!
Please help it reach its goal at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/452951513/la-mancha-the-card-game"
For educators:
"La Mancha is 98% FUNDED and in its final days on Kickstarter! La Mancha is an award-winning storytelling card game that introduces players to a great piece of literature, Don Quixote, through socially positive gameplay where you compete to tell the best story and compose love poems to one another. It's great for introducing Don Quixote to new readers and practicing creative writing and improvisation skills. It also comes with a free teacher's guide!
Please help it reach its goal at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/452951513/la-mancha-the-card-game"
Podcast and video roundup
I also made a few new appearances talking about the game, its design, how we incorporated diversity into the gameplay, and other aspects that have made this project come together.
Last night I was on Kickin' it with Mr. King, a Northeast Ohio-based tabletop game web show where we exchanged notes about board game design and even played some La Mancha via webcam. Check it out here:
The game was also covered in the latest episode of the Kicking the Table podcast, which you can find here.
Cheers and thanks!

Chapter XI: Our FINAL WEEK and some gameplay livestream videos!
– Mon, Nov 26, 2018 at 06:25:14 AM
Dear Backers,
Do you see it? Thirty or so wild giants with arms swinging in the air...or maybe it's just the final week of our Kickstarter quest!
We are currently sitting at 88% funded with 4 days to go! I know I say this a lot but I wanted to express my profound thanks for your support of La Mancha - everyone on this end has put a ton of work into this game so it's really heartwarming to have others get behind it!
Call to action: Help us reach 100%!
A lot of backers have been asking "how can I help? What can I do?" as we've been heading into the final push.
Sharing the game on social media is the best way to help us find new backers, please write a personal message to the effect of "hey check this game out!" or something similar, then paste the text I have in quotes here:
"La Mancha is on Kickstarter for only 4 more days! It's the storytelling card game for 3-5 players where you battle your friends one minute and declare love to them the next using quotes from real books of chivalry! Based on Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/452951513/la-mancha-the-card-game"
(Okay don't copy this text) Another way you can help is by extending your pledge to have your artwork postcards signed or to get the Kickstarter-exclusive art print. Directions on that can be found here.
Retailer tier added
On the topic of helping us reach our goals, we have added a Shopkeeper Backer Tier for retailers to place wholesale orders of La Mancha. This tier is $200 for 10 copies of the game. If you know of anyone who owns a game shop or if you frequent a friendly local game store, please share this information with them!
La Mancha at MAGFest!
In other news, La Mancha was accepted to the MAGFest Indie Tabletop Game Showcase, taking place January 3-6 in National Harbor, MD. More info can be found here.
Livestream weekend recap!
Lastly, we did some gameplay livestreams this past week and wanted to do a quick roundup so you all can see and share.
We worked together with Immortals, Inc. in Rocky River, OH and Flavor Text to bring you this in-store livestream. The game was a lot of fun and the players (some of whom had never read Don Quixote) really got into the material!
This is one we posted on our Twitch and YouTube channels with a player who had never read Don Quixote and a Spanish teacher!
That's all for now. I have a few more tests and media appearances coming up this week as we end this out so I'll send those along. Thank you again for your support and please continue helping us reach 100% funded! Onward!
Cheers and thanks again,
Chris
Chapter X: Thanksgiving Livestream Weekend!
– Fri, Nov 23, 2018 at 05:15:20 PM
Dear backers,
Just a quick update today. We will have 2 livestreams of La Mancha gameplay coming up this weekend:
- Sunday (the 25th) at 6 pm EST we will be at Immortals Inc. in Rocky River, OH showing the game. They livestream these game sessions on Facebook and their Twitch channel. More information here.
Also, in case you missed it, backers can get any artwork in their reward tier signed or can get a Kickstarter-exclusive art print by adding on to their pledge.
To do this, just follow these steps:
For those at the tiers that offer art cards, adding $10 (without changing your reward tier) to your pledge gets you signed versions of the art cards.
For anyone with a physical reward (no print-and-play), adding $20 (without changing your reward tier) to your pledge will get you signed versions of any art cards in the tier you selected AND a copy of the Kickstarter-exclusive art print!
To modify your rewards to get the add-ons, follow these directions:
1. Click the “manage your pledge” button on the project’s page.
2. Increase your pledge by the amount needed to claim the add-on(s).
3. Save your pledge. Do not change the tier that you originally pledged at.
Also, please send me a Kickstarter message once you've done this so I can put a note with your pledge to sign your artwork and/or send you the Kickstarter-exclusive art! To send the message, click on the "By Chris Totten" text at the top of the Kickstarter campaign page and click the blue "contact me" button at the bottom of the pop-up that appears.
Many thanks for your support!
